Apart from the benefits to be derived from sailing both as a recreational and competitive sport, the ‘mission’ of the Academy is to change lives by providing the opportunity for young sailors who are leaving, or who have left, school to start on the ladder of qualifications that can lead them into (well paid) employment in the Yachting/Sailing Industry.

In 2014 we ran this course for Academy students who are now employed at various locations e.g. at resorts which offer sailing instruction and on charter boats as crew.

During August 2016 the Academy hosted a Sailing Instructor Training Course for 10 days. This involves having two U.K coach/assessors from the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) come to Antigua to deliver the course.  We were delighted to report that all of the Academy students passed and are now professionally qualified Dinghy Sailing Instructors.

In September 2017 we will be hosting the course again, and will aim to qualify a further six students.   They must all be highly competent sailors as this course teaches them to teach – not to sail.
